FSC®

WHAT IS THE FOREST STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL®
FSC is a non-governmental organisation working globally to promote responsible forest management. The FSC system of forest certification and product labelling allows consumers to identify wood, paper and other forest products from well-managed forests and recycled sources. FSC UK is a registered charity working to promote the FSC system.

HOW DOES THE FSC PROMOTE RESPONSIBLE FOREST MANAGEMENT?

Products carrying the FSC label are independently certified to assure consumers that they come from, or contain material from, forests that are managed to meet the social, economic and ecological needs of present and future generations.

HOW DOES THE FSC SYSTEM WORK?

In a FSC forest, harvested trees are replanted or allowed to regenerate naturally, but it does not stop there. The forests are managed with due respect for the environment, the wildlife and the people who live and work in them. This is what makes the FSC system unique and ensures that the forest is well-managed, from the protection of indigenous people's rights to the methods of felling trees.

HOW CAN I BE SURE THAT THE PRODUCT REALLY DOES COME FROM AN FSC WELL-MANAGED FOREST?

In addition to forest certification, the FSC system includes a certified chain of custody that tracks the timber through every stage in the supply chain from the forest to the final user. This is monitored through the invoicing process and the final label on the product has a code that confirms that the item is genuinely FSC.
